Upon successful completion of this course…

Objectives include attaining at least a novice high level of oral proficiency according to ACTFL guidelines. This means students will have the ability to participate in basic conversations using learned material to handle simple needs and express everyday courtesies. Students will begin to talk about themselves and their preferences, activities and interests in present and past time. Students will learn to greet others, introduce themselves, handle basic social situations and talk about a variety of topics of common interest. In addition, students will be able to describe their physical characteristics as well as those of others. The focus of this course will be to foster spontaneous and creative use of the language. Reading and writing skills at a commensurate level will be developed and practiced.

Instructor Course Policies
Classroom attendance is taken every day and is required. The Department allows only three unexcused absences. For every absence over three, one point will be taken from your final average. Excessive absences may result in failure. Do not come to class late. Class will always start on time. Arriving late on 3 occasions = one absence. Arriving late on the day of a vocab quiz (late = after the 3rd word of the quiz is given) means you will receive a 0% for the quiz. See the current Student Handbook for the college’s Attendance policy especially as it pertains to excused absences

Institutional and Program-Level Policies
All exams will follow the Final Exam Schedule. Students scheduled to take three or more final examinations on one day may request to arrange their examination schedule, so no more than two exams occur on one day.
Requests for early or late exams are considered only under extreme circumstances. Prior to the exam period, the student must file a written request on the Early/Late Exam Form available in the Student One Stop Center, Academic Records, and on the WC portal. The form must be signed by the Instructor and the Academic Dean, approving the alternate exam time. This process must be completed prior to the scheduled exam period.

Out-of-class Work Expectation A minimum of 2 hours of out-of-class student work is expected for each hour of in-class time for traditional face-to-face courses. For online and hybrid courses, the combination of face-to-face time and out-of-class work should be equal to 3 hours per credit hour per week. |
